The Dark Tower (The Dark Tower Book VII) by Stephen King
I finished it! The longest series of books I’ve ever read in my life. And it was 100% worth it. I absolutely, without a doubt, highly recommend reading these books. It’s an intense journey and it will take commitment, but so worth it. You will want to read them steadily and consistently or you will completely lose the threads of the intertwining stories.

The Dark Tower series is for mature sci-fi fans, but fantasy book readers will enjoy them too. There’s a bit of sexual content, some violence and adult language-- however it’s all very literary and well-handled so to me, not offensive at all. If you like any of Mr. King’s books, I believe you will definitely enjoy this series. I say that because Mr. King is IN the story. Himself, as a character. A few of his books, his other characters, are also woven into this epic tale. But in such a wonderful way that it can’t be described without reading.

I still say my favorite of the series is #2 - Drawing Of The Three. So if you can make it through the metaphysical, desert-crossing journey in the first book, The Gunslinger...and then you dig the second book too...you must finish the series. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

The writing is spectacular--so deep, well-constructed, meticulous, thoughtful, and beautiful. The imagination and creativity on display throughout this journey from desert to tower is truly magnificent. So much happened in these books. SO much. SO MUCH. SO SO MUCH. It’s really incredible to think back and remember all the details I loved...but then realize all the other details I loved at the time I read them--but have forgotten by now.

As for a specific review on this last particular book--The Dark Tower--I honestly don’t have much more helpful things to write than the opinions I've expressed over and over in all the reviews of these other books. This last one is the most sci-fi and fantasy one of them all and it certainly goes in some surprising directions. The end comes quick and it wraps up so fast. But we are talking about a 7 book series that took the author over 30 yrs to write, so the end of something like that will always feel abrupt and surprising, I think. The bottom line is, as I’ve written here over and over, I completely loved this series and I’m so glad I conquered it.

Thank you for these books and for your work, Mr. King!

One more thing - feel free to watch the recent Dark Tower movie...but NEVER relate it to these books. It’s alike in name and characters only. And some of the words in the movie are from the books. Other than that, there can be no comparison whatsoever.

Happy Reading!
